Assistant Technical Superintendent - Permanent - SW Wales - Competitive package The Assistant Superintendent Engineer is to assist the Superintendent Engineer to provide engineering expertise and project management skills to the Port Manager providing timely guidance and recommendation of solutions to technical matters, including modifications to vessels to achieve best practice of operational and manning solutions Key Responsibilities * Ensuring the full technical readiness of all the vessels operated within the port * Technical Management and assisting the incumbent Shore Engineer with the hands on maintenance of six Line boats operated in the port. * Assist the Superintendent Engineer as directed in the control of technical budget for the maintenance and dry dockings, including monitoring of and control of the costs of repairs and maintenance. * Assist the Superintendent Engineer as directed in the preparation, monitoring and control of repair and maintenance budgets for the fleet including records of spare part, fuel and lub oil usage. * Assist the Superintendent Engineer as directed in the management, planning and coordination of maintenance, regular service periods, dry-docks and upgrades through the designated service contractors / vessel crew as appropriate. Essential Qualifications * At least 5 years thorough experience in Marine Engineering. A minimum of an HNC/D in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture and 2nd Class FG Motor Certificate or equivalent. * A thorough and demonstrable understanding of how the engineering and technical support impacts on the service commitment and a good understanding of customers and their requirements. Understanding, meeting and managing of technical, project and repair budgets. * Able to provide satisfactory and constructive guidance to superiors, to lead subordinates by example, providing a "hands on" guidance for engineering and technical resource in a team building manner and to provide instruction and solution building with sub contracted engineers and vessels staff. The ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers, repair yards and crew, demonstrating a commitment to training and development subordinates.
